Introduction:
The 2011 Information Technology Month (IT Month) took place for the first time in the Greater Taichung International Expo Center from December 16-21, 2011. The fair was joined by 250 firms, which took up the 850 booths at the spacious venue, providing consumers in central Taiwan with entirely new fair-visiting experience. With the venue close to the Taichung High Speed Rail Station, the local train system and National Highway No. 1, the 6-day fair attracted over 522,000 visitors, who brought in $5 billion of sales for exhibitors.

With his name signed, Lin Ruey-Shiung, the vice-presidential candidate of the People First Party marked the beginning of 2011 IT Month at 10:00 on December 16. Following Lin’s signature was charity auctions, the revenues from which were later donated to Lifeline Association. Other popular activities included show girls playing hula hoops while demonstrating 3C products, and performances by singer Amber An and actress Rima.

The theme of this year’s IT Month is “technology touches my heart” as an attempt to demonstrate the freedom, comfort and affections that come with the use of 3C products. The exhibition is divided into 5 sections, showcasing the latest developments in smart phones, tablet PCs, Ultrabook with reduced weight and long battery life, non-contact motion–sensing interactions, augmented reality, head-mounted 3D display, smart wireless transmission, naked eye 3D, cloud platforms and other applications and designs of new technologies.

In addition to the main exhibition hall, the venue also provides spaces for a variety of themes including special area for government agencies, hardware equipments, digital communications, audio-visual appliances and digital cameras, offering citizens of the Greater Taichung city with ample choices. The IT Month this year takes place at the end of the year, time for year-end parties and the Chinese New Year celebrations, which makes the fair an opportunity for exhibitors to grab a share in the year-end consumption boom. Among the array of latest products, Ultrabook, light single-lens reflex cameras, tablet PCs and smart phones have received the most attention. And the most popular among them, is Ultrabook, which boasts power-up time of merely 2 seconds, 50% reduction in weight and 6-8 hours of extra battery life.
